The best way to get around Sardinia is by car., which can be rented at any port or airport. Since the territory of Sardinia is very large and has many beauties and attractions. Many villas and apartments located next to the sea do not have supermarkets, pharmacies and restaurants nearby. Therefore, going to a restaurant or shopping by car is a common practice in Sardinia. Sardinia has a free autobahn that connects north to south and south to east. There are no traffic jams on the roads of Sardinia. Traveling on the roads of Sardinia will give you pleasure.

My husband and I went around all the sights in this wonderful city. We do not like to linger for a long time in one place, we urgently need to change the place of rest. Having lived a little in Rome, we began to choose where else to go. They chose the island, they did not regret it a bit, the view is simply mesmerizing, the impressions will remain for a very long time. We had little choice, how to get there we chose the ferry. You can also fly to Sardinia.

On a ferryboat

To get from Rome to Sardinia, you need to get to the city of Civitavecchia, we decided to get there by train. Civitavecchia is a city of ports in Rome, located 80 kilometers northwest of Rome.

Arriving at the Termini railway station, we found out that trains run quite often along this route on the Frecciabianca and Regionale lines. The first train goes to the main bus station in Civitavecchia at 05:26, the last train leaves at 06:40. Trains run several times an hour, daily. Travel time is from 40 minutes to an hour and a half. We went at 14:12, we were already at the place at 15:13, the journey time was about an hour. We bought a ticket in advance through the official website, if we had not taken it right away, we would have had to stand for it for about an hour. From the port of Civitavecchia there are ferries of the Tirrenia Navigazione company, the schedule depends on the time of year, on average there are two ferries per day. In August, the influx of tourists is very large, a couple of flights are added there.

Ferry Tirrenia Navigazione

The ferry arrives at the port, at:

  • (Cagliari)
  • Arbatax
  • Olbia

Travel time:

  • To Sardinia (Cagliari), 13 hours
  • To Arbatax, 10 hours
  • To Olbia, 5 hours, 30 minutes

Having reached the port, we were put on a ferry and on it we got to the port in Sardinia (Cagliari). Of course, the plane is faster, but it seems to me that it is worth taking the ferry, you will get an unforgettable experience, this view cannot be described here.

How to get to Sardinia, it's up to you, but remember that the ferry will take you not just to the Italian island. This is a place where different nationalities and even Africans lived at one time. Therefore, the Sardinian nation, formed by mixing several nationalities, has its own culture, somewhat different from the Italian one, acquaintance with which is of great interest.

Along with this material they usually read:

In addition to Sardinia, from almost any Italian port you can go by ferry to another island belonging to this country - Sicily. Such a trip will be a fascinating and picturesque boat trip if you are not in a hurry.

Alternative to permanent ferry crossings from island to island and to the mainland - a yacht cruise on mediterranean sea. The abundance of islands on the way from Thessaloniki to Barcelona makes such a trip not only justified, but also preferable. Moreover, the prices for renting small yachts are becoming more affordable every year.

The ferry will be able to take you from the island to Italy, most likely you will arrive at the port of Livorno or Civitavecchia. We advise you to make both trips, because in the first you will visit Pisa, and during the second you will visit Rome. You can try to pick just one, but it's hard.
